Custom ergonomic medical practice design
For the pulmonology practice at Sint-Trudo Hospital in Sint-Truiden, we designed and delivered a fully bespoke medical practice interior. The project focused on creating a clear reception area, ergonomic workstations, and a more efficient layout for both patients and staff. The result is a calm, professional healthcare environment that is perfectly suited to support daily operations.

The challenge
The existing layout no longer met the needs of the practice. The reception desk lacked visibility, workstations were not ergonomically designed, and the overall layout created an inefficient workflow. In addition, glare from natural daylight, limited workspace, and poor acoustic comfort made the environment less practical for daily use.
We therefore re-evaluated the entire floor plan from scratch. The result is a modern practice featuring a clearly visible reception, ergonomic workstations, and a calm, well-organised working environment.
Our approach
Starting from the existing floor plan, we created a completely new layout tailored to the daily workflow of the practice. The redesign combines ergonomics, functionality and a welcoming atmosphere. Today, both patients and staff benefit from improved circulation and comfortable workspaces.
A central reception area with better visibility
The entrance was relocated and the reception desk was positioned at the heart of the practice. Patients immediately know where to check in upon arrival.
We eliminated the level difference in the entrance area and installed a lower reception counter, ensuring easy access for wheelchair users.
The new layout creates a logical connection between the entrance, waiting area and consultation rooms, providing staff with a better overview while improving collaboration with the physicians.

Ergonomic workstations for greater comfort and productivity
The staff workstations were completely redesigned. In the back office, we installed Ergonomio electric sit-stand desks featuring four programmable memory positions. Staff can easily switch between sitting and standing at the touch of a button.
Integrated cable management keeps every workstation clean and organised. The desks were positioned perpendicular to the windows, allowing daylight to enter from the side and eliminating glare on computer screens.
For office seating, the Interstuhl Pure PU113 was selected. Its innovative Smart Spring mechanism subtly follows the body's natural movements, encouraging active sitting while providing exceptional comfort throughout the working day. The chairs fully comply with the European EN 1335 office chair standard.

A warm and calm environment for patients and staff
Alongside functionality, considerable attention was given to creating a pleasant atmosphere. The waiting area was furnished with elegant Arper Cila 2200 chairs, combining comfort with a refined appearance.
To improve acoustic comfort, an acoustic ceiling was installed throughout the practice. An additional suspended acoustic ceiling above the reception desk reduces reverberation, making conversations clearer and more comfortable.
Warm wood finishes, soft natural colours and striking pendant lighting create a timeless, professional interior where patients feel welcome and staff can work in a calm environment.
