Why an ergonomic office chair is important
Office workers spend an average of 8 to 9 hours a day sitting. Without proper support and with a static posture, this quickly leads to back, neck, and shoulder pain.
An ergonomic office chair helps prevent these complaints. These chairs are specially designed to actively support your body and encourage natural movement. With adjustable features, the chair adapts completely to your body. This allows you to shift positions throughout the day, maintain healthy blood circulation, and stay more focused and energized until the end of the day. You work far more comfortably and significantly reduce the risk of strain-related injuries.
What is an ergonomic office chair?
An ergonomic office chair is designed to adapt to your body and the way you work. It takes your individual needs into account. The chair moves with you and provides support where you need it most. Key features of an ergonomic office chair include: Adjustable seat height and seat depth Adjustable lumbar support or backrest height Armrests that relieve your shoulders A dynamic mechanism that follows your body’s movements Want to learn more? Read our blog “How Does an Office Chair Mechanism Work?” to understand the different movement mechanisms and how to choose the right one.
How should I adjust my office chair correctly?
You can only really benefit from the features of your office chair if it is adjusted correctly and takes your body and working habits into account. Ergonomio provides advice and tips about your workplace. Five steps for adjusting your (home) workplace.

1. Seat height
Sit with your shoulders relaxed and your arms at a 90° angle on the work surface. Your feet should be firmly on the floor, with your knees slightly lower than your hips. Are your feet not touching the floor? Then take a look at our footrests.
2. Seat depth
Make sure your back is firmly against the backrest. Leave about three fingers' width of space between the front of the seat and the back of your knees.
3. Backrest / lumbar support
The (pre-shaped) lumbar support should sit just above your belt, so that your lower back is properly supported.
4. Armrests
Adjust the armrests to the same height as the desktop. This will ensure that your forearms are in a straight line with your work surface.
5. Keyboard and screen position
Place the keyboard about 15 cm from the edge. The screen should be directly in front of you, at eye level and at arm's length. Can't adjust the height of your screen? Then be sure to take a look at the monitor arms or monitor risers.
