18. What is Martindale abrasion resistance?
The Martindale test is a test to determine how quickly fabrics wear through threads. A woolen fabric is rubbed with a certain pressure over the test fabric. The name "Martindale" refers to the device used for this international test. The test result is expressed in the number of times the device has made before up to three threads are broken at the test fabric, or visible pile failure occurs at a pile fabric.
External characteristics such as holes, fading, grip and texture change are also included in the assessment.
The values are between 6,000 for upholstery fabrics to a minimum of 20,000 for project fabrics.
To give you an idea:
Decorative use: maximum 6000
Light residential use from 6,000 to 10,000
Normal residential use from 10,000 to 15,000
Intensive living use from 15,000 to 20,000
Intensive living + working from 20,000
A fabric from 50,000 Martindale will rarely if ever cause complaints based on wear behavior.
All our fabrics have a very high Martindale value. So your office chair will stay in top condition for a very long time.
